Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Education

Program Philosophy

The M.Ed. in Education is an advanced program for Elementary Education that provides a focus on Curriculum and Instruction (C & I). The M.Ed. in Education is for teachers who want to enhance their knowledge and skills while advancing in the profession as Master Teachers. Earning this M.Ed. degree will elevate a Mississippi teaching license to class AA and prepare completers for leadership roles in the school setting.

This program meets the needs of professional teachers who are already certified. The Master of Education program of study provides opportunity to strengthen advanced pedagogical and research skills.

The M.Ed. in Education is a 30-hour degree program that emphasizes differentiated instruction, ethical decision making, instructional supervision, and the integration of theory with practice that includes technology-based practices in curriculum and instruction.

All students must have active Watermark accounts while enrolled either in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs. Students needing new Watermark accounts will be assessed a program fee based on the rate at the time during their initial term of enrollment.

  • Those who complete ED 523 , ED 524 , ED 527  & ED 564  may be recommended for the Add-On Endorsement 174: Reading (Grades K-12).
  • Those who complete ED 516 , ED 517 , ED 530  & ED 595  may be recommended for the Add-On Endorsement 207: Gifted Studies (Grades K-12)
  • Those who complete ED 538 , ED 548 , ED 554  & ED 555  may be recommended for the Add-On Endorsement 221: Special Education (Mild/Moderately Disabled) Grades K-12), however evidence of passing the MDE Foundations of Reading Test is also required.
