Add-On Endorsements

Licensed teachers may add the endorsements below by completing the required program of study at MUW. All courses must be taken at MUW, and substitutions are not allowed. These programs are continuously reviewed by the Mississippi Department of Education and are subject to change at any time, including before the next catalog is published.

Endorsement 174: Reading (Grades K-12):

Teacher Education majors are required to pass the following courses with a C or higher as part of their major.

• ED 361  - Early Literacy I
• ED 362  - Early Literacy II
• ED 365  - Integrating Reading and Writing Across the Curriculum
• ED 466  - Diagnosing and Assessing Reading Difficulties in Children

This add-on endorsement is approved for the B.S. in Elementary Education program. Teacher Candidates who complete the B.S. in Elementary Education will have completed each course required for this supplementary add-on endorsement.

Total: 12 Semester Hours

Endorsement 221: Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disabled (Grades K-12):

• Teacher Education majors are required to pass the following courses with a C or higher as part of their major.

   

• ED 306 - Introduction to Special Education
• ED 323 - Education of the Student with Disabilities
• ED 324 - Teaching in the Inclusion Classroom
• ED 390 - Classroom Management and Student Accommodations and Interventions

  This add-on endorsement is approved for the B.S. in Elementary Education program and does require a passing score on the Mississippi Foundations of Reading Test. Undergraduate Teacher Candidates in Secondary or Specialty Education programs may be approved for this add-on endorsement after completing a Secondary or Specialty Education program at Mississippi University for Women, completing the 12 semester hours listed above, and providing evidence of passing the MS Foundations of Reading Test.
