EN 409 - Young Adult LiteratureCredits: 3
Prerequisite: EN 102 and a 200-level English course or permission of the Department Chair of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy
This course will cover the development of young adult literature in the late twentieth and twenty-first century through a variety of critical lenses, including reader response, historical, race, disability, gender, and sexuality. Readings will include award-winning YA books. Further consideration will be given to the topics of genre, banned books, representations of trauma, and canonicity. Students will have the opportunity to engage in independent and group investigation into pedagogical, literary, or sociocultural aspects of YA literature.
