Women’s College Certificate

The Women’s College Certificate combines scholarship about women and gender from a variety of disciplines into program of study. Courses are offered by faculty across disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and health-related sciences and cover diverse research areas such as women’s health, women in politics, women’s history, and women and gender in art, film, and literature.

The certificate provides knowledge and competencies especially relevant for a range of careers such as advocacy for women and other underrepresented groups, health care, social work, counseling, management, media studies, public history, public policy, and teaching. It can also be ideal for any working professional interested in increasing their understanding of women’s and gender issues, learning more about women’s leadership past and present, and further developing as a leader in their field.

The certificate is designed for non-degree seeking students and requires 12 semester hours, which must be earned at Mississippi University for Women.

Objective of Certificate Program

The certificate provides knowledge and competencies especially relevant for a range of careers such as advocacy for women and other underrepresented groups, health care, social work, counseling management, media studies, public history, public policy, and teaching. It can also be ideal for any working professional interested in increasing their understanding of women’s and gender issues, learning more about women’s leadership past and present, and further developing as a leader in their field.

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will:

  • Increase their knowledge across the field of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies
  • Increase their awareness of gender dynamics in their communities and workplaces
  • Develop knowledge and competencies especially relevant for a range of careers such as advocacy for women and other underrepresented groups, health care, social work, counseling, management, media studies, public history, public policy, and teaching

All courses listed are three credit hours each with the exception of WC 101  Women’s College Colloquium, which is one credit hour.
