Business Administration, MBA

MUW’s Master of Business Administration degree is designed to develop the skills required for careers in business; however, the program is not limited strictly to the business world. It is a beneficial degree choice for working professionals who need to obtain additional education to reach their occupational goals. It prepares students to work in a wide range of industries and professions.

The program teaches students to become progressive business leaders that can analyze a situation and create effective practical solutions. Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills are emphasized. The MBA provides a graduate education in foundational business practices, such as accounting, finance, management information systems, marketing and management. The comprehensive MBA core curriculum builds the foundation necessary for success in any field, while electives offer insight into specialized areas of expertise.

Additional Requirements and Procedures for the Master of Business Administration Program:


Students requesting admissions to the Graduate Program in Business must fulfill the following:

  1. Minimum 3.0 GPA on all undergraduate coursework (the GPA on the last sixty (60) hours bears no additional consideration)
  2. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work from each institution attended, including MUW transcripts. Transcripts must verify that the applicant received a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited four-year institution and that the applicant has a minimum 3.0 overall GPA on a four-point scale for undergraduate studies.
  3. Earn a C or above in the following coursework prior to enrolling in the Master of Business Administration program at the W: Principles of Economics I (or II), Principles of Accounting, Principles of Marketing, Principles of Management, Information Technology course
  4. Three professional letters of recommendations are required with an overall recommendation of “Recommend” or higher. Recommendations should attest to applicant’s academic ability, work experience, and character. These recommendations are gathered electronically through the online application system. Applicants are required to enter an email address for each recommender which will allow an online form to automatically be sent to the recommender.
  5. Three graduate business essays are required. Responses should be double-spaced and each page should clearly list the applicant’s full legal name and essay topic. The application software will only allow one essay document to be uploaded. Please include all three essays on one document separated by subheadings. The required essays are to address the following topics:
    1. Purpose Essay: Describe your career goals and explain how a Master of Business Administration degree from  the W will help you accomplish these goals (750 words maximum)
    2. Creativity/Entrepreneurship Essay: In 750 words or less, imagine a small business that you would like to open. Give a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and challenges facing the business. The essay might include (but not limited to) discussions of your business’s customers, revenue sources, business model, competition, operating environment, marketing efforts, information technology, management structure, etc. Be creative. Be concise.
    3. Ethics/Critical Thinking Essay: Describe a significant ethical dilemma you have faced. What action did you take to resolve it. How did you evaluate your available options and decide on this course of action? What lessons did you learn that could be applied to an ethical dilemma faced today? How has this dilemma shaped your values? (750 words maximum)
  6. Applicants must submit a professional resume detailing skills, educational experience, and work experience (with a particular emphasis on relevant work experience and managerial/supervisory experiences).
  7. The MBA has the following application deadlines:

Fall Term: August 1st

Spring Term: December 1st

Summer Term: May 1st

Please Note: all required elements of the application process must be submitted by this deadline. This includes a completed application, transcripts, resume, 3 essays, and recommendations.

Curriculum Requirements:


In addition to the general degree requirements (See Academic Policies and Procedures  in the Graduate Bulletin and curriculum requirements noted below), the student must successfully complete the following:

Total Hours for Master of Business Administration: 36 Semester Hours


Note: Graduate-degree credit is granted only for graduate-level courses in which the student earns an A, B, or C. No more than six semester hours of graduate credit evaluated as C may be applied toward any graduate program, whether degree or non-degree.

To remain in good standing, the student must maintain a minimum 3.0 MUW cumulative GPA on all graduate courses attempted with no more than two grades of C, with no grade of D, and with no grade of F.
