NU 325 - Concepts Utilized in Professional Nursing ICredits: 3

Prerequisite: Completion of lower division courses Concurrent enrollment: NU 301
The purpose of this course is to introduce the beginning nursing student to basic professional nursing practice, quality, psychosocial, and safety concepts prior to entering into clinical experiences. Students are introduced to the AACN The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education and ANA Standards of Nursing Practice. The history of nursing is presented as students begin to appreciate ow the past impacts the present and future. Concepts basic to the development of a professional nurse are introduced as students learn skills necessary for communication and collaboration by study theories of commumnication, teaching/learning, group process, and cultural diversity. Professional nursing values are introduced as well as the concept of moral, ethical, and legal conduct. Basic health prevention and nursing process concepts are presented as techniques to promote health and manage illness.
