ED 524 - Early Literacy II

Credits: 3

Prerequisite: ED 523  

This course extends the scientifically based foundation  in the cognitive, sociocultural, linguistic, and motivational influences on literacy and language development. The course provides a comprehensive exploration of the developmental and instructional implications related to fluent reading, vocabulary acquisition, and comprehension instruction across the grade bands. Principles of Structured Literacy instruction for these core aspects of reading are studied and practiced. Other aspects of attitudes, motivation, and engagement will be considered with reading issues and classroom trends.

Note: This course requires students to conduct related practice in their own school or specified field settings.
