BSB 172 - Biology IICredits: 4
Prerequisite: BSB 171 Biology I
This course is a continuation of BSB 171 and covers fundamental introductory biological concepts, scientific reasoning, and bioinformatics. Students utilize bioinformatics programs to determine number, loci, and functionality of bacteriophage genes, and publish their findings to Genbank. Students also explore phage-host relationships. Specific biological concepts introduced include evolution and characteristics of major taxonomic groups, human organs systems, ecology, epidemiology, and bioinformatics. The lab meets twice a week.
