Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Multiple Exceptionalities

Program Philosophy

The M.Ed. in Multiple Exceptionalities is an advanced curriculum specifically designed for licensed educators. It includes a 12-credit hour endorsement in gifted studies, a 12-credit hour endorsement in special education, and two 3-credit hour research courses, totaling 30 credit hours.This program aims to equip educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the diverse needs of students with disabilities, multiple xxceptionalities, and giftedness in educational settings.

The Master of Education program offers an opportunity to enhance advanced pedagogical and research skills. Completing this degree will elevate a Mississippi teaching license to Class AA and provide graduates with add-on endorsements 207 in Gifted (Grades K-12) and 221 in Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disability) (K-12). 

The M.Ed. in Multiple Exceptionalities emphasizes differentiated instruction, ethical decision-making, instructional supervision, and the integration of theory with practice that includes technology-based  best practices in gifted instruction and special education instruction.

All students are required to maintain an active account in the unit’s designated assessment and data management system throughout their enrollment in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) or Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs. Studetns who require a new account will be assessed a program fee at the rate in effect during their inital term of enrollment.

  • ED 555  - Ethical and Legal Practices in Special Education
  • ED 592  - Capstone in Education
  • ED 595  - Program Development and Evaluation

Note: 

  • Those who complete ED 523 , ED 524 , ED 527  & ED 564  may be recommended for the add-on endorsement 174: Reading (Grades K-12).
  • Those who complete ED 516 ED 517 ED 530  & ED 595  may be recommended for the add-on endorsement 207: Gifted (Grades K-12).
  • Those who complete ED 538 ED 548 , ED 554  & ED 555  may be recommended for the add-on endorsement 221: Special Education (Mild/Moderate Disability) (Grades K-12).
