Culinary and Hospitality Education, M.S.

MUW’s Master of Science in Culinary Education addresses the growing demand for professionals equipped to teach culinary and hospitality relevant curricula by offering a comprehensive foundation in pedagogy, culinary techniques, and course design, providing educators with an appropriate academic credential.  This will be a low-residency program geared towards current and aspiring K-12 culinary arts teachers and industry professionals who want a graduate degree that fits with their work schedules.

Additional Requirements and Procedures for the Master of Science in Culinary and Hospitality Education:


Students requesting admissions to the Graduate Program in Business must fulfill the following:

A. Minimum 3.0 GPA on all undergraduate coursework. (the GPA on the last sixty (60) hours bears no additional consideration)

B. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work from each institution attended, including MUW transcripts.  Transcripts must verify that the applicant has a minimum 3.0 overall GPA on a four-point scale for undergraduate studies.

C. Three professional letters of recommendations are required with an overall recommendation of “Recommend” or higher.  Recommendations should attest to applicant’s academic ability, work experience, and character.  These recommendations are gathered electronically through the online application system.  Applicants are required to enter an email address for each recommender which will allow an online form to automatically be sent the recommender.

D. A graduate business essay that will allow the admissions committee to learn about the applicant, his/her accomplishments and professional aspirations.  Responses should be double-spaced and each page should clearly list the applicant’s full legal name and the essay topic.  The required essay is to address the following topic:  Describe your career goals and explain how a M.S. in Culinary and Hospitality Education from MUW will help you accomplish these goals. (750 words maximum)

Summer Intensive Residency (12 Semester Hours)

CA/HSP 601 - Culinary Hospitality Residency I ( 6 hrs)
CA/HSP 602 - Culinary Hospitality Residency II (6 hrs)

MS CA/HSP ED Comprehensive Exam
MS CA/HSP ED Exit Questionnaire

 

Total Hours for Master of Culinary and hospitality Education: 42 Semester Hours

 

Note: Graduate degree credit is granted only for graduate-level courses in which the student earns an A, B, C. No more than 6 semester hours of graduate credit evaluated as C may be applied toward any graduate program, whether degree or no-degree.

To remain in good standing, the student must maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on all graduate courses attempted with no more than two grades of C, with no grade of D, and with no grade of F.
