Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, BA

The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies major is grounded in MUW’s history as America’s first public college for women and its ongoing commitment to academic and leadership development for women. Using an interdisciplinary approach, students in the major critically examine the social construction of gender and the gendered status of women in diverse cultural contexts and time periods. The major emphasizes both scholarly exploration and the application of knowledge to practical women’s issues. Any student graduating with a major in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies will be required to earn at least a C in all major courses.

BA Degree Requirements:

Foreign Language (one area - minimum of 6 hours at the 200-level or above)

Select fifteen hours of additional Women’s Gender, and Sexuality Studies

May include any Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies courses including any of the above elective courses not counted already or:
WC 101 - Women’s College Colloquium
WC 402 - Women’s College Independent Study
WGS 299 - Special Topics in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
WGS 400 - Seminar in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
WGS 401 - Internship in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
An approved course from another discipline which contains significant women’s studies content.

Electives for the major must include courses cross-listed with at least three different academic disciplines.
