NU 301 - Introduction to Basic Nursing Skills

Credits: 3

Theory (2.5) 37.5 contact hours; Laboratory (.5) 15 laboratory hours
Prerequisite: completion of lower division courses. Concurrent enrollment: NU 325 .
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to foundational concepts in evidence-based practice and nursing theory that support competency development in providing person-centered, evidence-based care. Students will build on knowledge in human anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, safety, and quality improvement principles, aligned with the delivery of essential psychomotor skills that integrate The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education by AACN and the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Professional Nursing Practice. Nursing skills emphasized include infection prevention and control, hygiene practices, thermal therapies, assessment of vital signs, medication administration, elimination support, promotion of mobility, and oxygenation strategies, preparing students for clinical practice in a variety of healthcare settings.
