NU 300 - Pharmacology in Nursing

Prerequisite: NU 301 , NU 325 . Concurrent enrollment: NU 328 , NU 329 , NU 330  

Pharmacology introduces students to commonly used drug classifications with a focus on mechanisms of action, therapeutic uses, administration routes, side effects, adverse reactions, contraindications, drug interactions, and essential nursing considerations. Students will also develop skills in dosage calculation using ration and proportion. Emphasis is placed on the nurse’s responsibility in promoting safe and effective medication use. This course is aligned with the 2021 AACN Essentials, integrating a competency-based approach to support students in building the knowledge, skills, and professional judgment required for modern nursing practice.
