ED 466 - Diagnosing and Assessing Reading Difficulties in Children

Credits: 3

Prerequisite: ED 302 , ED 361 , ED 362  and ED 365   Prerequisite/Corequisite: For Elementary Education majors ED 435  

The purpose of this course is to provide teacher candidates with a knowledge base of various formal and informal assessment methods and intervention strategies for teaching reading instruction to struggling readers in grades K-6. The foci of this course include students gaining the knowledge and skills necessary for conducting diagnostic reading assessments used for data-based decision-making and planning instruction with research-based interventions. Students will be instructed on ways to implement best practices for the struggling reader while placing emphasis on Muti-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).

Note: Elementary Education majors must take this course with ED 435  for field experience; no exemptions will be granted
